    Thumbs down Changing Transducer

Any suggestions on the best way to pull new transducer cable without taking boat apart?

If you are lucky you can tie a piece of strong line to the plug of the old one, pull it out, then pull the new one in with the line.

I have only done this once, but it worked pretty well. My transducer was on the back of the boat. I cut the cord just above the transducer and then taped it to the new cord of the new transducer with electical tape. I then went up to the location of my depthfinder at the console and pulled the cord until the old one was out there fore leaving me the new cord. Just mount the new transducer on and you are all set. It was not real easy but is easy enough for one person to do.

    Good Luck.

that new transducer plug is big. Tape it all the way over and HOPEFully it won't get caught while pulling it thru using the old one.

I agree about the tape. I would also grease the cable with a cable pulling lubricant such as yellow 77. This will reduce the friction and allow the cable pull easier, especially when routed next with other wiring. Borrow some yellow 77 from the telephone guys if you know anyone.

Thats by far the best but liquid soap will work if you can't find any.

This too. The trick is don't pull hard! if the cable binds, pull it back, wiggle it around, and try again. Those cables are not that strong. The wires inside can (and do) stretch and break internally with excessive force.
