    Default 987c vs 797c2

Can anyone tell me the differences and which one is better? I know that that the 997c is the best but I can't afford it. I can get the 987c at a pretty good price from someone.

Better? Depends on what you are wanting. The 797 is a sideimaging, depth finder/GPS unit. It gives picture like looks at the bottom.

I believe you meant 997 instead of 987. The 997 is just the same unit with bigger screen and extra data card slot.

I thought that the 987c was the older model with side imaging that the 997 replaced

The 987 is way better then the 797. You get more for the Cash. Its not up there with a 997. But if you can get a deal on a used one. May be better then the 797.
Here is what I see on my 987c-Si when looking for creek channels.

From what I've been told. they all show the same thing, just on different scales, due to screen size. It appears that all unit's have a zoom feature, and they all calculate the points that you mark and handle the gps calculations.

All units are only as good as the operator, seems to be the mantra.
