Speck Chaser, I just installed a 787 on my boat as well. Haven't bought the navionics chip yet but planned to soon. How are you liking the unit so far? I'm eager to get out on the water to try mine.

Speck, I've got a 787 with the '08 card, and it just depends which
lake you're on. Some, it shows more or less the channel by just a faint,
narrow line, and on some it don't

for example, one small lake that only has like 5' contours, it shows the
faint line, and it is fairly accurate, and is a big help, because I didn't even
have a paper map for that lake.

on the other hand, one of my main reasons for waiting and getting an '08
card, is my home lake is in 1' contours on it. And it is the devil to discern
where the channels are at times. I've tried picking a depth that represents
the top edge of most of the channel, and setting it to shade down to that
depth, but that only helps somewhat.

Make a track and save the track on those contours. Choose the color of the track not to conflict with the map. Dats what that track option is good for (besides returning).

The units want let you mark (make) tracks. You can mark some waypoints in the simulator, then go to the water and follow your waypoints. This generates a track. Save this track, then delete the waypoints you just added. Now you got a track of the path you wanna go and in a different color than the contours and you can make it wider too.

Too bad we can't can't create tracks in the simulator mode. Sure would simplify things. I can do this (create tracks) before I go to the lake in Oziexplorer. It can be done. Too bad they (all manufs) don't give us this capability with the units.

This BLOWS! New word for me..ha
