If U do use a power source in hse, be sure to always use a 3amp fuse. 997 uses 0.5 to almost one amp, gots to protect it all times with that 3amp fuse. Same goes in boat. Even tho I use a power source that a dealer got from Lowrance for display use I still have a 3 amp fuse in line. Protect your $

Good advice here. You can learn a lot by pushing buttons while relaxing in your recliner. This is how I do it. I keep my unit at my desk. Play with it occasionally to keep my memory refreshed on how to use the unit. I have to. Brain is getting worn with age.

I knew someone would come up with a power supply. I built my own and bitched 'cause Humminbird didn't offer one. Two 9 volt batteries. ha

Cane pole you must have the 797?? On sidefinder site some were using the 9volt battery setup when trying to update the 997 & it was dropping out. It was said that 9volt dealy was the cause, not enough power for 997 when performing an update.

There's an old power cord that comes with the PC kit that uses two nine volt batteries but wasn't meant for these units. The batteries won't last long enough to do the update of any thing. I snipped them off and put a line fuse on the positive side then female spade connectors on both. These hook great on the tabs of a 7.5 amp hour batteries like the AquaVu's and flashers use.
With out the transducer hooked up I'd bet it doesn't power the sonar so the battery should go along time between charges. I prefer the battery for mobility. Thats what I used to run the machine the other day through the ice hole.
