    Angry After Calling Humminbird!!!!!!!!!!

LADY TOLD ME THEY DO NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS!!! THEN I WAS TOLD OF A $73.00 chg for repair and a 90 day warranty for a unit that cost around 279.00 and 10 day to two week turn around.. unit purchased in 06 and I just think they should return to past practices of charging for the failures of fixing their units of alot less..first lady hung up during our conversation, and I was NOT rude, very polite, so called back and second lady was very nice and understanding and said there is a set repair price for the 727 unit. I knew I should of went with my gut feeling when I made the last two purchases!!! And that was NOT to purchase another HB!! oh well, shame on me... maybe I should sell front HB unit and buy two new ones of different make!!It just seems like the customer care divisions of so many companies nowadays are terrible and offer no customer service or want to stand behind their products!!!! I know there are alot of HB out there that haven't had any problems, especially from yrs ago,,, which I have used for years..but the stuff anymore carries no pride or anyone standing behind them!!!!

Sounds like you thought they should just give you a new unit after 2 years??? The 90 day waranty is on the refurbished unit! I have run HB for years and they are great and have great CSRs! Try to swap with your front unit to make sure you have a problem at all.

I did swap!! and I didn't expect a another or new unit...I thought thet repair price of $73.00 is quite high for that and a long turn around... I have had HB for at least 30 yrs also my friend... and never had problems like I have the last couple years with CS. The problem is in the unit and not the cradle... I wasn't born yesterday!

I wouldn't use contact cleaner. It can attack plastic and rubber, causing more bad than good. I use toothbrush and alcohol. If that doesn't clean enough, then toothbrush and toothpaste, then rinse good with water, followed by the toothbrush and alcohol. After thoroughly drying, coat with bulb grease.

Also, if the connector is large enough, use a dry rubber eraser. Blow off debris. This is the best way if it is possible to get on the pins with an eraser.

Don't forget, most of these pins are gold flashed. Very thing coating of gold, so don't scrub hard and don't scrape with an abrasive or a Bowie knife.

My expert advice, but it's your boat.

appreciate all the info, but it is the socket that the pins slip into on the unit that is hard to clean..cleaner I used is for electronics and just I have had bad luck with HB products.. not the first time.. i got tired of switching the front finder to the console and then back again... these days, the electronics I thought, was to make things...just ruins a good day of fishin' and I believe they should last longer than it did.. I understand the warranty and all, and didn't expect a new one, I feel the repair price is quite high for the product... without it working is like going fishing and leaving your favorite rod at home... and CS just isn't like it used to be..I had sportng goods store for 10 yrs and had great support,,from almost all my suppliers.berkley was the best tho'.

I would be careful even with electronics spray. Read your label. Just trying to be helpful. I have issues with HB myself. They greedy.
