Now you just have to play with it all. Every body of water can be tweaked differently and same bodies of water may need tweaked depending on water conditions. Default setting is always a good place to start. As far as scan width it depends on if you’re looking for individual fish or big targets sunk boats fish cribs. Bigger width patter the less screen pixels to dedicate to targets

I run the width about 3x the depth but that just for general scanning purposes but honestly I don't use side scan that much.
I'm glad to see you getting out and getting it all setup. Like Nova said you just have to get out and play with it to get it dialed in. As water conditions change you may have to change some of your setting a little to keep it dialed in.

Sounds good to me, I enjoy being able to adjust on this thing while I'm out. Now that i've spotted and caught a few fish with it, I feel like it was worth every penny. With my style of fishing, the unit is a little overkill but it paid itself back ten fold on Tuesday. I had a pretty large school of crappie swim under me and I got to chase them around for 30 minutes picking a couple off of the school every so often. It almost felt like cheating! The important part is that I was having fun.

I also think if I had not fished as much as I have without this technology, I wouldn't enjoy this as much as I have so far. It would almost be discouraging. I don't spot a ton of fish with the SI, but it does make me stop and fish spots that I would have originally passed up on my usual route for crappie.

I believe I'm going to get a dedicated battery for the unit. I don't need it immediately, but I will need it once I start staying out for 12 hours pretty regularly. I ran out of battery on Tuesday before I wrapped up my day of fishing. I'm usually a 10-12 hr fisherman, and I normally don't have this problem because the fish haven't been biting like this; but Tuesday was my best day I've had yet. I used my trolling motor all day and did a number on the battery. I'm going to check all the cells and make sure they are full before buying another battery. It may be time for me to service the thing. It would certainly be cheaper if that was the case.

I had to do a lot of adjusting on Wednesday while I was out in the rain. The rain disturbs the water more than I thought, and it was pretty eye opening.
