Thread: Hand held gps.?

Looking for a new one that won't break the bank. I currently use an Etrex and it does the job but it is one of the early models. Accuracy is close but not spot on the best I can get it is around 12 feet on a good day, usually I can find the spot but it's a pain in the butt going around in circles trying to find the spot. I use it in the winter on the ice and than it really is a pain when you drill a lot of holes looking for a brush pile. Especially since I drill manually. Is there another brand that will get me closer and one that I can punch in the co-ordinates in manually? I used to have a Magellan and it was great punch in the numbers and when I got to the spot I was on target.

I think that's about as close as any of the GPS will get. I have been told that the government has something to do with not letting GPS get any closer. Most new ones say they will get within a 3m accuracy.

Delorme gps,is no longer available as garmin bought them out. You could take that gps and push a button to mark your lwaypoint and let it keep marking that spot. When you hit stop, it would average out and create that waypoint. Very tight marking and within a yard or two of where you wanted to mark. Don’t know if some of the garmins adapted that setting or not, but it was as accurate as you can get to mark a waypoint. Only thing to make your waypoint that accurate was you have to be standing still and on a boat, you would still have alittle movement, but it would still average it out depending how long you let the program run. I let it run couple of minutes then hit mark, to get really tight waypoints. You might check and see if garmin has that setting to average a waypoint out.
