I don’t think you’re necessarily missing anything, but the other day I was catching them spider rigging in 3.5-5 foot of water. Just have to stay off the trolling motor as much as possible, and fish long rods to keep the baits in front of the boat/noise. That lake isn’t more than 5 feet deep in most places and gives up a bunch of nice fish.
