Down Vu is what it was called before the lawsuits and Garmin GT ducers had (still have) a dedicated down looking piezo. Clear Vu instead is a blend of two outward pointing (side) piezos to achieve down image. You should get a less than full strength directly downward coverage from this, but those who have used it, or both, say the issue is non-existent in shallow water <30' especially. Even if you have (like me) an earlier unit that once displayed downvu on the menu it will now say clearvu--altho there should not be a change to those units. I think I've captured the essence of it. Someone else may happen along with more complete information. Actually, HB has used, and still does, the same or similar technology on several/some models.
