Crappie Wall Hanger
Fish ID...
Is there a source for Helix (or any FF) fish interpretation on the screen? It's a guess, but maybe an educated guess, if a the FF shows a lot of single fish not clumped simply horizontal or parallel to the lake bottom they probably are not a school fish.
What would a school of crappie look like versus a bunch of drum or catfish? Needless to say I found a lot of fish this weekend but everything we caught was something other tan crappie, while pulling crank-baits. Couldn't locate a single bait-ball either

If you weren't seeing any bait -there was no reason for crappie to be there ...

THX - views with comments are great! I must be seeing catfish or something else like drum, we did hook several drum! Woudl stripe bass and hybrid be schooled or scattered? I will try to post a few pics of my sonar for interpretation help.

Kinda what we pulled crank baits thur and only caught drum and catfish. No bottom structure and bait-balls. Any idea on the species, I assume not bass, or hybrid bass and not crappie

There are many species that school loosely like that (and not around structure) ...
Without actually catching one it's difficult to guess ...
I would guess one of the bass species with stripes because it's open water ...

Here a few images off of a Helix Mega unit. The first image is of KY bass and smallmouth bass......close to bottom and spread out.
The next couple are of crappie.....they are not afraid to stack on top of each other.
I caught a ton of fish from the spot of each image......I caught what I fully expected to catch after seeing the image. There are other fish that will stack on top of each other......such as white bass. As you get more familiar with your unit you will learn also to look at size of return which can help you guess what it is. In the end though none of us know until we catch what is under us.
