    Default Water in trolling motor?

Bought a brand new 30 lbs trolling motor. Took it out in water on kayak yesterday, it works good until I pulled it out and it drained water out of trolling motor like a lot. I wonder if that's normal..?

Shouldn't do that. Take it back and get another one. Before you use the new one, take the prop off and make sure the through bolts are snugged down.

Since it is still under warranty take it back and get another. Even if it is just loose bolts since water got in there some other problems could show up later due to corrosion.

What I would do, would be to drop the TM into the water & run it a little while ... then pull it up with the prop end sticking up. Then remove the prop ... then turn the prop end 180deg & see if much water comes out. If it does, then the screws aren't sealed or the shaft seal is compromised. If no water comes from the "inside" of the prop end of the TM ... then it should be OK, and what you were seeing was just water caught in the cupped housing of the backside of the prop.

I've been known to pull my TM up and give it a spin (quick tap on the foot pedal) to sling out the water caught behind the prop ... mostly to keep water from running back into the bow of the boat (where the TM plug & various elec wires are), but also because when I take off & go at WOT, that water can blow back into my face or on my glasses. (and at nearly 50mph, I need clear vision !! )
