    Default Wiring for sonar

I am planning on running wire on the new to me boat Sunday. I got Ancor 16 guage tinned wire. It's red and black and then encased in a vinyl sleeve much like your 16/2 Romex home wiring. When I run the sonar wire, I'll also be running a light and trolling motor wiring as well. Do I need to run the wires down two separate paths? I want to minimize any chance of noise but if the vinyl case on that wire will prevent noise, I'd much rather run it all down one path for ease and troubleshooting.

Wiring for electronics should be ran down the opposite side of the boat ... More trouble but good insurance for avoiding interference ...

Wiring for electronics should also be connected to the starting battery or a dedicated electronics battery ...

Don't forget the fuse at the battery - the fuse is protect the entire circuit in case of the battery shorting ...

Rickie I have a breaker for the trolling motor. I didn't get one for the finders. I'll be wiring a 899 in the back and a helix 7 in the front. Should I just get in line fuses from a parts Store? How many amps on those fuses?

Yes a fuse for each positive wire coming from the battery. The fuse is the only protection your wiring has. The fuse protects the wire, not the electronics. Having said that, you can replace the fuse for the wire with a fuse for the sonar unit as long as the fuse for the sonar unit is less than the one required for the wire. As stated above, most are 3 amp, however read your owners manual to be sure. I'm thinking I used 2 amp fuses for my core HB units.

As for the wiring runs. At minimum run the trolling motor wiring away from your electronics run.

Correct 899 and HELIX require 3amp fuse ...

A blade type inline fuse is better than the glass type fuse ...
