Default 36 volt vs 24 volt

Been thinking about trading out my old cable steer motor for something with a remote steering. I remember renting a boat with 24 volt system that ran on just 1 battery. This seemed to work just fine. I have limited space for a 4th battery in my boat. Will a 36 volt motor work on a 24 volt system. I would expect some decrease in power but don't know how much.

The 36 volt will not run on 24 volts. The only way is to series all three batteries to get the 36 volts. I know some have trouble with screen interference on the finders with the starting battery being hooked in series with the other two trolling batteries. I have a 24 volt system with the start and troll batteries in series and have had no problems.
    Good luck Jeff.
Maybe some one else has other opinions.

The boat you rented either had the start/troll bats connected together or the trolling motor had a 12/24 volt switch to make it run on 12 volts. My best guess...

I have a 24v motorguide I use a start + troll setup and it works great.
It will run on one 12v but at full speed only. Not useful for fishing.
    I love my 24v.

I recently upgraded from cable steer 24 volt to a Ulterra 36 v. I bought a 4th battery box and pulled everything out then played with the boxes to make sure I could get the batteries in before buying the motor. I wanted the 36 volt because I fish a lot of heavy current when catfishing in rivers. On lakes I had no issues running the 25 volt edge 70 all day.
The only complaint I have is MK doesn't make the Ulterra 112, 36v iPilot Link in a 45 or 52 inch shaft. The 60 inch shaft is a bit long for my boat.
    What size is your boat?
