Updating my electronics....
I'm upgrading my depth finders on my boat, after much reading, and with what I can afford, I've decided on two Lowrance Elite 7 with CHIRP units! I've already installed one on the console on top of a Johnny Ray swivel mount to raise the unit up a little.

Yalls input on these units would be helpful, I'm new to down imaging! I'll be replacing the front trolling motor unit soon with a Elite 7 as well

Rob,
Are you asking about the Lowrance Elite 7 HDI /CHIRP or the new Elite 7 Ti / HDI CHIRP ?

You might find some useful info here : http://www.crappie.com/crappie/fishi...-chartplotter/ .... but, let me warn you up front -- it's a long read !! It's mostly about my Elite 5DSI unit, but much of the info may transfer over to yours, seeing as how yours are much the same unit with the 2d/chirp feature added (and a bigger screen). If nothing else, the DI charts may help you understand DI & how it works, what it will & won't do, and help you shorten the learning curve.
I went from b/w 2d units straight to DI ... and I don't miss 2d sonar ONE BIT
But, there must have been a whole lot of people that did, because Lowrance discontinued the Elite "DI only" models and added 2d back (HDI) ... and now have added the CHIRP function.

Mine are the Elite 7 CHIRP units

Thanks Rob. The Elite 7 HDI CHIRP was replaced by the Hook series and hasn't been available for quite a while..that was the reason for my question. CrappinPappy provided a good link for you. If put another unit on the bow, look for the HDI trolling motor adapter kit (000-10978-001) for the transducer or a Transducershield and Saver TS-HDI-2 shield.

The ones I'm putting in are the Elite 7 CHIRP, they use the HDI trams, and are just like the HOOK7, but BP has them with the Navonics for 379!
