    Default Upgrading electronics

I am about to upgrade the electronics in my boat. I currently have an 898C HDSI on the console networked to a 788 2d upfront and sharing waypoints. I have a GPS puck at rear and front of boat for each FF.

I'm thinking of getting a Helix 12 and moving the 898 to the bow. Also planing on getting GPS puck with heading sensor and putting at front of boat. The reason I was going to put heading sensor at front and connect to 898 is I easily get turned around with map when trying to zero in on brush piles.

With all that said, also plan on setting up NMEA2000 bridge to see if I can get motor info on FF. (I have done my research on this and feel I'm up to challenge)

A few questions I'm asking myself...

What can and cannot be shared between the two FF?

Can I share just direction from GPS heading sensor to Helix12?

Would going with NMEA200 compliant GPS heading sensor be better idea and can I share info to both FF?

    What am I over looking?

Have I gone nuts with all of this?

    Thanks

A lot of things to consider there ...... Another option would be to put the Helix 12 up front. The Larger brighter unit would be good when you are standing and are further away from it. You could also move the 788 to the console and have 2 units....dedicate one to mapping.

With the Helix units, you can't share the heading info without also sharing the GPS info from the HS GPS ....You can with the Onix.

Sharing between the 98 series and the Helix is a little more iffy than between 2 Helix or the 99 series....What Humminbird told me was that the new can see the old, but the old cannot see the new. There is a matrix on Humminbird's website that I have lost track of that shows what can be shared. I will post a link to it if I can find it.......Waypoint sharing won't be a problem, but the Chirp on the Helix 12 also creates some 2D transducer sharing issues to a non chirp unit.

    I haven't set up a NMEA2000 network, so can't help there.

    According to this document http://www.humminbird.com/WorkArea/D...t.aspx?id=8912

"**Only waypoints, routes and tracks are shared"

If that is the case, then I am good to go.

    Which HELIX 12 ...??

There is great advantage in having at least one unit with "Dedcated DI " technology in a networked Setup ...

I'm getting the Helix 12 SI for the console. What are the advantage of dedicated DI. When you say dedicated DI, I'm assuming true HB DI.

The HB SI units (excluding ONIX) do not have a dedicated DI piezo pointing straight down ...

The DI views in the HB SI unit is a computer generated image from the "side pointing" SI piezoes ...basically the SI data rearranged in a DI image format ...

Therefore if any of your fishing methods needs Sonar data from straight down under the boat = a HB unit with dedicated DI technology would be of great benefit ...
