They do look like fish as the DI also show them. This may be a help to you also.http://www.humminbird.com/Category/S...AQ/FishArches/

    • Boat Speed – with a boat running fast it is traveling across more bottom area and target information than when it is traveling slow. With the same Chart Speed setting as when the boat is moving slow, the depth sounder will have to compact any information it ‘sees’ when running fast. The depth sounder has a better opportunity to arch fish if the boat is moving at a slower speed. Also, when a boat is moving fast, small air bubbles may be getting under the transducer, decreasing the sensitivity of the depth sounder. Try slowing the boat or matching the boat speed with the Chart Speed setting.
    • Chart Speed Setting – if the Chart Speed is set too high, the depth sounder will draw an elongated arch that may not be recognizable as an arch. With the Chart Speed set at a high setting, the arch may be spread across several screens. With the Chart Speed too low, the depth sounder may be drawing the arch but it may just look like a ‘blob’ of pixels shown all together. Again, try matching the boat speed to the Chart Speed setting. During field trials we have gotten reports that the depth sounders were not showing fish as arches. Setting the Chart Speed to a lower, slower setting ‘fixed’ the reported concern.
Be safe and good luck fishing

Definitely fish below surface clutter. Good hard return with the red and yellow showing up. I'm no expert but but what shows up depends on your boat speed, transducer angle, and your sensitivity setting. The angle looks good to me may want to adjust your sensitivity to get what you're looking for. Like I said I'm definitely no expert. Looks pretty good to me.

WHEN YOU GO STRAIGHT OVER FISH AND THE DEEPER THE FISH ,THE MORE THE ARCH,FARTHER TO ONE SIDE
WILL NOT GIVE MUCH ARCH,AND AS SAID A STRONG SENSITIVE AND SLOW SPEED HELPS,BUT TO ME NOTHING WRONG WITH THOSE PIC

The 200kHz Sonar cone is just not going to be very wide at the depth those targets are (10ft) ... (1/3 depth= 3.33ft cone at 10ft) ...

Then couple that with a boat speed of 2.88mph ... Those targets are just not going to be in the sonar cone long enough to create a wide definite arch ...

As the guys have mentioned ... An arch is a combination of the target being in the Sonar cone to be "pinged" several repeated times ... And the target being farther away from the xducer at the edges of the Sonar cone vs closer at the center of the Sonar cone ...

Thanks guys! I keep the ping speed on fastest I think and the sensitivity on auto...I will try playing with both!

No. Ping speed is the rate the unit sends out pings (sound pulses) and chart speed is the rate the information displays across your screen.

so how do you match chart speed with boat speed as discussed above. i have a lowrance HDS7 touch, Gen 2, but I assume it can be matched similar to a bird.

I can adjust the "scroll speed" on my lowrance unit. Perhaps that is the same as a bird's "chart speed".
