    Default rnvinc question

Ok, Rickie. Got a head scratcher here. Fishing tournament yesterday in partners boat. Haven't been in it for awhile. Console 998 networked to Link trolling motor. We were setting on front facing rear pulling cranks. Turned that unit around to watch depth. Depth reading is steady but off by about 40 ft. Screen clear, bottom where it should be, no interference. Pulled and reinstalled cable collector a couple of times no go. Turn trolling motor of depth reading goes back to 12 ft where it should be. Turn trolling motor back on goes to 56 ft. Disconnected network cable and sme thing. Motor off normal, motor on crazy. Did not disconnect cable from trolling motor. Finder is wired to cranking battery. And I don't have ready access to the boat. Any ideas?

By the way also did factory reset.

TM RFI interference will make depth readings go crazy ...

If the console unit xducer is on the transom ...and the unit is still getting TM interference = the RFI must be getting in thru the power circuit somewhere ...

    Common on-board charger ??

Yes, Dual Pro 4 bank. What I don't understand is this has just recently started and nothing that I know of has been changed. Also no sign of interference other than depth reading changing. And when depth changes it is not erratic like jumping up and down. It might jump a little then it settles in at a depth about 4 times actual depth. Also don't know if this is related, if trolling motor is turned on and you try to power down unit it takes several try's to get it to go thru the shut down sequence. Turn troller off it shuts down normally. This is the only motor I have fooled with that is networked.

This part I don't understand either ... I do not recall ever reading of any type interference causing issues with the shutdown procedure ...

Try disconnecting the on-board charger from all but the TM batteries and report back ...

I assume the xducer is on the transom ... ??

It was weird to me. With motor running, push power button and hold, you get a popup screen that lists prop and a couple of other options then the shut down in 2 seconds pop up. Then that disappears. But the original popup stays. May have to do that's 8-10 times before it shuts down. Stop trolling motor and hit power down it goes right to the 2 second shut down and turns off.
Got another question if I can. Is it possible to go into finder and turn off networking? Understand I have never fooled with anything networked before.

Try disconnecting the on-board charger ...

If that doesn't help ... Disconnect the Ethernet cables ...and test ...

The options in the networking "Menu" are to choose the unit's own transducer (no actual shutoff) ...

Waypoint sharing can be disabled under the Networking tab ...
