    Default Old quadbeam transducer?

On another forum a fellow asks this question:

I bought a boat with a model XT-6-TB-90-P-03-02 transducer mounted, which is an old quadbeam. I wonder if I should replace it with the tranducer that came with my fish finder, a. 788CI which is a dualbeam.

Quad beam is the poor mans side imaging. I personally liked it. I know the quad beam worked with the 787 which the 788 replaced. So I suspect it will work with the 788 too.

Yes it will work with 788. I know because I used one. However I never could get it to work properly with an 859 C. But it would work with an 899C. Sent the 859 back to Humminbird 3 times and they could not get it to work either. had to send them pix of the 899 using the quad and the 859 using it. Trouble with the 859 it would only read one side.

so I am assuming ( hate that word ) that most of the older generation core units are ok with the quad beam. The newer core units you are taking a gamble. Even if it lists the quad beam as an option in the transducer menu. It might not function correctly.
