You guys ever get the notion that this is a marketing ploy ? Seems to me they intend to build up a dam of of purchasing fever. Makes me more leery than anything else. They built up a demand for the Onix. Then in failed miserably in performance and reliability until software version ???.
Gun companies used to employ the same program. Release a select few to gun writers, who would promptly give it a whiz bang write up. Then the actual buying public was all primed to buy one and could not get it for 6 months or so. Some models when finally available were retailed for more than MSRP. They may use it still but since I no longer trade in guns. I don't know if they still use it.
What is sad is to see posts about someone sinking 2500-3000 dollars in some unit. Then not being even able to use it due to all the bugs. No one manufacturer is to blame. As they all seem to suffer from OVER-HYPE. Kinda like when Microsoft comes out with a new Windows operating system. Then spends a year getting it to be able to use.
Hard to come up with a direct analogy as FF/ GPS units are used mostly by recreational fishermen. So the purchasing of such is not a life necessity. But could you imagine the heat wave if car companies advertised that their vehicles got twice the mpg they actually get.
Don't get me wrong I love this technical innovation that has been spreading like wildfire. I just wish they would wait until it is proven right before they sell it. For me I wish they would invest their less of their money in advertising and more in research. If something is really all that good. Does not the word spread like wildfire ?
After being an almost lifetime Lowrance man. I moved back to Humminbird. Mostly from what I read on these forums.
Honestly how many times does " game changer " have to be heaped on a piece of equipment to induce people to buy it. Whereas several positive posts here and other respected sites. Convince me where to invest my money. Instead of some Madison Ave type quotation or paid sponsored pro.
