    Default Back to HB

I've now officially used HB, Lowrance, and Garmin. My personal preference is HB because it works for me. While I enjoyed the Garmin, the mapping was a deal breaker. I was not impressed with the maps of the lakes included in my area and the fact that they do not offer a custom mapping option (ie SonarChart, AutoChart) is just plain lame. The 93sv did produce very nice images, but at a $1300 price point, it is an "entry" unit. Tough to swallow when you compare it against the others in that price range, feature for feature, and expandability. I would say that if their HD card had all the lakes you want to fish, you are good to go.

Got a good deal on a used 1198 that ships Monday and have the newest LakeMaster and AutoChart on the way! At least the second installation on the boat will be easier since I learned all the "not" to do on the first go around. My goal this year is to map a couple of the small lakes near my house and enhance some of the bigger ones. I am starting to get longlining fever...been too long since I've seen those rods bend.

All in all, the technology out there is really impressive and I have nothing against any of the brands.

LOL, you're welcome! I'm a tech guy and love this stuff and sure wish I had an unlimited budget. But even so, I gotta recognize there is a point of diminishing returns for me personally between the level/price of the tool versus the positive impact in actual fishing. It's a constant battle cause my fishing skill is lacking hahahahah

I'd rather watch fish happily living on the brush than actually catch them!

I'm guessing that picture was taken before the update ..... 6.74 isn't the latest software release, as a matter of fact, it was one of the worst ones......maybe that's why the seller wanted to get rid of it.

Yep that was the first power on. The update took longer than I'm used to, but worked. Hoping to get a quick morning trip in this weekend before the storms hit.

So I have a Helix 5 DI/GPS on my kayak and just updated to the latest software. Can I get an OVERLAY folks!!!!! How many years has this been asked for and those &*$% readout boxes now have an alternative. The overlay very much looks like the Garmin display in the bottom left and I LOVE it. I wanna be mad it took this long, but I'm just too happy we got some real estate back.

Here are a couple shots from the Helix 5 on the kayak showing the new overlay option. On 2D the font is black and on DI it is white. These pics are from today. Was interesting to see them stacked up like they were. Not usual for the black crappie in this lake. The bite was HOT! Gotta pull the pics and videos off the GoPro.
