Default Helix 5 - second question

I have been reading the manual for my new Helix 5 DI GPS and have found another “hole” in the instructions. If I understand the manual correctly Waypoints, Routes, Grids and Tracks are stored internally and can be downloaded to a Micro SD card. I figure that if I have a Map Card installed I have to turn the unit off, remove the Map Card, insert the blank SD card and export my data. I figure this will not be bad because I would be exporting the data at the end of the trip while on the trailer.

Here is the “hole”: To do a Screen Shot or a Recording the SD card must be inserted to get the Screen Shot Menu. So if I have a Map Card installed I must turn off the unit, remove the Map Card, install the blank SD card, turn the unit back on and then do the Screen shot. To continue fishing I then have to turn the unit off, swap cards and restart the unit. While swapping cards does not seem to be a difficult thing, I think I would rather not do it while on the water.

Have I read the manual correctly?

Yes, I think you have. To cut costs, H'bird only put in one micro sd slot, so you have to work around that. It saves you money, too. I'm not so sure you will have to turn off the unit....some will allow removal and installation of cards while powered up. Please get verification, tho, before you try that!

If you use HB Chart Select it will write the info direct to the card. I am not sure if it will do that with a Lake Master

Yes as stated above Helix units are budget units. There is no hole it was not intended to be a unit to record and use the card at the same time. The card is not needed to fish. It's a navigational tool and the unit will save waypoints without the card. It's a little agrivating but for the money those are awesome units. Otherwise you would need to step up to a 859 to get DI and two slots. I think they are around $650 and the Helix DI was $350.

You do not have to power off the unit to remove or replace the SD Card ...
    ----------

If you see something you want a screen capture of ... Press the 4way cursor to freeze the screen scroll ...

Then replace the map card with your SD Card and take the screenshot ...

This will keep the interesting item on the display from scrolling away ...

I knew he could remove/replace his sd card with power on, but is this also true for his map card?

Thanks Rickie! I took it out today for the first time. A bit overwhelmed by all the combo views. I will have to "hide" the ones I will seldom or never use.

The map card can be removed while the unit is powered on ...

The mapping data is read directly from the map card and overlayed onto the built in base map (UniMap is only lake outlines) ...

Removing the map card simply removes the map card overlay data from the chart views ...

This is the 1st tip I express to anyone in my advice of more efficient use of one's HB unit ...

Hide every view you will never use ...

I think I may only have 5 views "Visible" on my 1197 ...
