color is better HD color is even better, however in the sun I still find them hard to see. They make a cap you can place over the top to shade it with and that helps a lot

X2 on helix DI. Once you go to a color unit, you won't want the 561.

bigben, You may just need to go into menu and turn up the brightness. My friends unit seems to be very bright. Might help to try......crappie1133

Pretty much all of them are going to be hard to see if the Sun is shining directly on the screen. A screen shield would help, as would angling the unit more vertical (but still viewable).

I have a Lowrance Elite 5 DSI and have to take my sunglasses off to read the overlay info (tmp, speed, depth), and view the screen image to any degree of detail. But, if the Sun is shining directly at the screen, then I have to angle it or swivel it before it's viewable (even with my readers on ). It's color and the same size screen as your HB561di ... but, it's also a discontinued model, so you'd have to find one used (though I doubt you'd find one for around the $200 price range).

I had a 570 DI which does not have the color screen and upgraded last fall to a 598 SI which does have the color screen and to me its no contest; color screen easier to see under most conditions. I wish I'd gone with a color screen to start.
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
