Take a handheld compass and move around the area you are interested in mounting the HS puck ...

If there is magnetic influence ... It will show on the needle hand of the handheld compass...

I have heard of guys saying MU-Metal. They sell it but I have no idea how you would use it.

Rickie, I did just that and my front deck has magnetic interference everywhere, is there anything like a rubber base or the likes that can be used

thanks Wilbur I'll check into that

Was the TM up at the time you tested? Huge magnets in the motor will cause havoc with a compass and HS sensor with the TM in the stowed position. However, when the TM is deployed the interference usually subsides and the bow location is good. The interference problem with come and go every time you deploy and retract the TM. One thing to keep in mind with HB, the HS puck is a heading sensor and GPS antenna. The data can not be separated so if you want this feature on a different locator you will have to purchase two or share the data via Ethernet and have way-point that are way off. If you locate it too far from the transducer you will get inaccurate way-point patterns. Test the bow location on the water if interference is gone mount it up front and use it on the bow locator where it is most useful.

nhartke, this is the second HS puck going on the boat and is being placed at the bow correct, trolling motor was deployed during my test.

the front deck on my boat is small, I don't want to have to put a short mast up there for it, so I was hoping for a different fix

Where you able to pinpoint the cause of the interference? I am very surprised you had that much interference up front with the TM down. Where you in water? Nothing is impossible, however. Do you have a photo of the boat's bow and questioned location of the puck?

Is the needle on the handheld compass just randomly moving ... ??

Can you use the needle as an indicator to find where the interference is strongest ... Like maybe a wire coiled up under the deck or something ...??

I agree with nhartke ... It doesn't seem it should be affected with the TM magnets down in the deployed position ...
