Simple way to level transducer

This maybe the most foolproof way to level your transducers that I have read so far. This may help others so I wanted to make it a post. I was reading and CatFan replied to a post and this is the way he explained to level a transducer:

" To get your transducerlevel on the water, take a level and a handful of pennies out in the boat with you. With the boat at a slow idle the way you want to scan, put the level on the deck someplace and shim the back by stacking pennies until it reads level. Count the pennies, and when you get home put the level and pennies back in the boat where they were on the water. Crank the tongue jack until you center the bubble and your boat is sitting just like it does when you are idling. Now you can level your transducer and it will be right when you get on the lake"

I think Catfan was on to something here because when the boat is out of the water there is no way to know how it sets in the water. Thanks for your post CatFan and I hope this helps others like it did me.

If you add a passenger, wife loses weight or gains weight, or you add few gallons of fuel, you're gonna be a few cents off. Save your pennies. Level the deck while sitting in the yard then level the transducer bracket. It ain't gonna matter that much.

RCC; Well I agree to where I can disagree. My boat was way off level the way it sets in the water than what it is when just leveling it in the yard. This may not help you but I will bet it will help some people.The instructions that come with the sonar transducers are to me much more complicated than doing it this simple way.

My apologies Scrat for coming off so obnoxious. The pennies are an ingenius way of leveling, I was just bringing to light that level will change with how the boat is loaded.

If your boat has a jackplate just use the water mark on it to see how the boat sets in water

I used a cheap digital from sears, took my readings on the water then replicated them in my shop.

I start by using the scumline on the boat.
For the 2D sonar I adjust it by how any arches show.
For the Si sonar I tweak it by what I see when I drive by a vertical post in the water.
