help with my 998

I bought this unit used so this question is to do with settings ... when I go to mark a waypoint it makes a screen shot and on navigation map there is a camera icon not the normal waypoint and when I put cursor on it it shows the screen shot when I marked waypoint. .

Do you have a blank SD card in one of the slots. Can go into setting and turn off screen shots.

Iv got a SD card that has all my waypoints on it off my 898 ... THey all show up like normal just all the new ones I try to save on 998 are this camera deal.

Maybe Rickie will get on here tomorrow with his knowledge but I think your going to have to go into the set up and turn off the snap shot function. That should let you mark new waypoints. Then down load to your SD card to save. You probably need to just upload the waypoints from your SD card to the 998 then just remove the card.

To get it to stop doing the snapshots, you need to go into the setup menu and go down to snapshots and turn it off..........
1. Double click the menu button
2. Use the left and right cursor button to select setup
3. Use the down cursor button to select snapshots
4. turn snapshots off.

To clear the snapshots you have already taken is a little more complicated.

If I leave it like it is the snapshots will still show up as waypoints correct?

Yes they will but by default they are shown with the camera icon.

When you put the cursor back on the waypoint ...a thumbnail of the screenshot created will show on the chart ...("If" the SD Card containing the screenshot is still in the unit ) ...

If you take the SD Card out of the unit ... The thumbnail will no longer show ... But the camera icon will still remain on the chart ... (Like Greg mentioned the camera is the default waypoint icon when Screenshot is enabled) ...

This is so you can glance at the chart later and notice the camera icon to know you actually took a screenshot at that spot on the water ... (Then you try to remember what the heck you would have taken a screenshot there for) ...

You can change the camera icon by editing the waypoint under the Nav tab ... If you just would rather have the blue dot ...or any of the other icon choices in the edit menu ...

If you put the SD Card in your computer and remove the DAT file associated with the .png Screenshot ... And then put the SD Card back in the unit ... The thumbnail will no longer show on the chart view when the cursor is placed on that waypoint where the screenshot was captured ... But the Screenshot itself will still show in the Snapshot and Recording view ...
