Bought a Humminbird 597 at bass pro on Black Friday to go up front and it works fine but need to get the speed to show up on the screen and can't see any option for the speed on mine. I just watched the video of a 597 and his shows the option for the speed but mines not showing up. Some of the pics on the box shows the screen so I think it's there somewhere. Should I reset the whole unit and start from scratch? I've tried switching from beginner mode to advance mode but neither show the option. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I just tried that and it's not showing a option for speed. It shows like time, timer, navigation, TTG or something like that, and a few more but none had speed for a option
It is possible that the speed has been turned off. You may have to go through this process for several "Readout Positions" and follow the instructions here:
Press the UP or DOWN Cursor keys to select a Readout position, then
press the RIGHT or LEFT Cursor keys to choose what will be displayed in
that position. To hide the data window, select Off. (Course, Navigation,
Off, Position, Speed, Temperature, Time+Date, Triplog, Voltage)
This is copied out of the 587/597 owner's manual at humminbird.com
Are you in Normal or Simulator ...??
Is the unit showing chart views ...??
If the unit is in Normal operating mode ... But the GPS is showing not connected (under the Accessories View) or hasn't picked up the satellites yet ...there will be no option for speed in the Readouts ...
Speed is determined by GPS ...

Start the unit up in Normal mode ...
Go into the main menu under the Views tab ...
Scroll down to "Accessories View" ... make this view "Visable" ...
Exit out of the menu system and scroll thru the views until you get to the Accessories View and determine if the GPS antenna shows "Connected" or "Not Connected"...
Depending on your antenna view of the satillites ... It may take several minutes for the antenna to find the satillites ...
If the unit doesn't find the satellites after several minutes ... You may have a problem with the internal GPS antenna ...
