Thread: Gonna get a side scan but which?

,Bird 998c has excellent side scan if that's all you want. It has very poor down scan. If you really want side AND down scan you'll need a higher end Lowrance or hbird.
If your plan Is to only scan for brush and go back with the trolling motor looking for fish, the 998c would be excellent

I run HD 12's.......I would have a small motor on a boat and all my coins with electronics. Amazing pieces of equipment. There is a Gen 3 this year. Quicker, clearer and better mapping if you want to make them. I will drive around with side scan and only fish after I find them. Just keep your side scan at one setting so you can understand what you are seeing easier. Get Dr. Sonar DVD's and you will be ahead of the game.
