    Default indoor power supply

I just wanted to ask what you guys are using for a power source in the house for your units? I'm wanting to do software updates and look at recordings.

I don't want to cook my new unit lol

    as always thank you all

CanePole(Tom), made me a power supply for my Lowrance units with a 1 amp AC adapter. I ordered a power cord from Lowrance with 12v end to plug into the adapter.

    Works great.

I used a portable 12V "jumper battery" (jump start battery) from Wal-Mart and a extra power/tdx cord that came with the unit that I bought from a member.

I have a HB 1158 and a 998 unit, if I make display changes while using it in the house will it be the same when I hook it up in my boat.

That depends on what display changes you make skeeter96 (they should remember most of them but not all) and also what operational mode the units are running in when you make the changes. There are basically three different operational modes:

Normal mode. This is the operational mode that the unit goes into if it detects that a transducer is connected. It remembers most menu settings and is what you usually get when using the unit on your boat.

Simulator mode. This is the mode that the unit will default to if only the power cable is connected to it. It is has also been called the “Automatic (Auto) Simulator” and “Demonstration (Demo)” mode. It will reset the menus back to its demonstration settings after no buttons are pressed for about two minutes. It remembers no menu setting changes or edits of the GPS Info.

(Forced) Simulator mode. You have to manually force the unit into this version of the Simulator mode. It is basically the same except that it will remember all changes to the menus and GPS Info that it would remember if it had been running in the Normal operating mode.

You can enter the (Manual) Simulator mode in only one way:
With or without a transducer connected to the unit; press the power key and while the Title Screen (“998c Si” is displayed) is being displayed; press the MENU key. You will than see several menu selections. If it is not already highlighted/selected, use the Four-Way Arrow keys to select “Simulator”. Than either use the Right Arrow key to start this mode or some units will ‘time out’ and start the selected mode automatically.

After ordering this AC to DC adapter, I noticed a description from another website said the DC voltage wasn't regulated. Is there any concern of damaging my GPS, Lowrance HDS 8? Is there anything I can do to protect it? Fuse?
