I think it might be possible to do an Ethernet to Bluetooth adapter on both ends ...... Or maybe even a wifi to ethernet on both ends....If someone wanted to do some experimenting.
As long as no transducer is attached....and small dedicated battery was used for power.....You could put the unit anywhere in the boat you want.

I was wondering if the Onix ci model and a transducer attached to a sm 2000 module ...and maybe a 360...would be able to be used this way. Only problem with Bluetooth is that I don't think it is very fast......Might have to do an onboard wifi network to accomplish it.

Isn't there interference between Bluetooth & Wi-Fi ... at the 2.4Ghz ... when both units are trying to use that channel at the same time ??

I might be over thinking this, or even nefariously thinking about it ... but, wouldn't it be possible to "hack" a person's Bluetooth or Wi-Fi enabled sonar unit, and steal the GPS waypoint data

    ... cp

You wouldn't need to use Bluetooth and Ethernet Wifi at the same time....it would be one or the other.

Yeah.....Those guys over there in China would probably be figuring out how to steal and sell people's waypoints...

Funny because the Vexilar Sonarphone has bluetooth and sends the sonar to your smartphone.
