Kicking the idea of upgrading my existing Riptide sp auto pilot to Ipilot. As I understand I will change the head from the compass unit to the GPS unit and therefore have the AP unit to sell off. Am I on the right track or do some of the parts transfer to the Ipilot unit? Already know that I lose the pedal, and the electronic anchor is the bomb. Still think it would be worth it.

Your AP feature consists of a compass board and control board. When you install the I-pilot, you remove the compass board, but retain your control board. So you really won't have an AP set up to sell as it requires the control board. You may be able to sell the compass board though.
But everyone has the control board so all they need is the compass board. When It bought my Terrova this time I just ordered a straight footpedal model because I had the Ilink stuff.

The control boards are different between an AP motor and a standard motor. Maybe not so on a Terrova, but on a Powerdrive and Riptide they are. So if a person is trying to sell off his old AP parts to someone with a standard motor, they would still need a AP control board. See this link for a parts list showing different control boards for AP motors and non AP motors.
