You could do a temporary shoot thru by using a piece of a wax ring for a toilet........... just to test out and see if it's in a good spot and works good.

Could use plumbers putty for the test as well, temp may work but will be off a few degrees due to the hull will eventually get close to the water temp. Have you considered mounting up under the step on the transom, lots of people mount it there.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

An optional temp sensor and the AS T Y cable will allow transom mounted temp readings with a shoot thru mounted in the bilge ...

Which unit are you using presently ...??

If the unit has GPS ... Then the present speed sensor is not necessary ... And the xducer can be moved to where the speed sensor presently is ...

Or you could just opt for the XP-9-20-T inside-the-hull transducer that has the temp sensor on a 10 foot cable for mounting on the outside of the transom. I would test with the transom mount transducer first though. No need for plumber’s putty or anything on many boats to do this. Just fill a sandwich bag with some dry dirt, sand or pea gravel and place it on top of the transducer to keep it from moving around. Add a few gallons of water to your hull (enough to come half-way up the side of the transducer and test away. You may need to disconnect the auto-bilge pump for this test, so be sure to reconnect it afterwards.

When using on the inside do you set it dead center in the valley or up on the side of the valley. Sounds like a dumb question but want to be sure
