Default Please help with Humminbird advise and placement

Well I think it is time to upgrade and I need some help. I have decided to purchase a humminbird onix 8. The boat that I will put it on is a war eagle 17 stick steer. My point is, I never move from the front seat when driving and fishing, so i will only need only one unit. I currently run an Eagle on the trolling motor, the problem is I never know the depth until I stop to fish and I am running across questionable depth water to reach my fishing areas. I think my ideal setup would be running a transducer on the back of the boat with side and down imaging for finding brush when fishing new water and a di on the trolling motor when I am vertical jigging. Is this possible? If so what would I need to buy to make this happen? Thanks

Your going to have a few options here popshot...but I'm still learning the part numbers for the ONIX units...

I know HB makes a Y cable for the ONIX units but I'm not sure about a xducer switch for the ONIX...

And there's supposed to be an adapter cable that would allow the "less expensive" XHS 9 HDSI 180 T (core unit's SI xducer)..to be used on the ONIX...but I don't know if it's available yet...

Maybe Greg will check in Tuesday and offer part number advice ...

I use my 998 with TD mounted on TM and my older 788 with stern mounted 'ducer is used for GPS and depth at speed. When looking for structure or brush I operate with TM down at 2mph on high speed and stick steer using big motor for rudder. (usually pull a couple of cranks while doing this) If I see structure or fish will just spin around and follow bread crumbs back to spot and switch to down scan or 2d to relocate and vertical jig structure. Works good for me.

I have a Fisher 1610 stick steer with one 998c SI, I use a xducer switch to go from back to front and it works great. If you can use one on the Onix I would go that way. I was running two SI xducers front/back. I have also used SI back and DI/2D front. I'm now running a SI back, DI wide 2D and 360 front.

I'm still not sure if there is a switch that can be used on the ONIX units...(Greg??)...

The ONIX has a different xducer cable connector (14 pin)...(and the HB TS3 switch has connector ends for the HB core units...9 pin)...

I know there is an adapter cable that allows the HB core unit xducer (XHS 9 HDSI 180 T) to be used on the ONIX..(14 pin to 9 pin)....but this adapter cable removes the "Down Image" channel...because the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T has no "down pointing" piezo...
    Humminbird | AD 1429

So connecting an ONIX to the existing HB TS3 switch (with the AD 1429 adapter cable) ...would remove the "Down Imaging" capability of any HB xducer connected...(the HB TS3 switch and the needed AD 1429 adapter cable would even disconnect the "Down Pointing" piezo in the ONIX stock XT 14 20 HDSI 180 T )...

There is a ONIX cable for the dual left/right SI xducer setup...( Humminbird | AS 14 SI DB Y ...but this Y cable would not be conducive for a dual xducer setup (bow and stern)...

Until HB makes 14 pin switch...I see no viable scenario (yet)...to connect 2 SI xducers to the ONIX...except for the AS 14 SIDB Y cable dual left/right SI xducer setup...(unless the user is OK with losing the Down Imaging capability of the ONIX unit by using the HB TS3 switch and the AD 1429 adapter cables)..

I would suggest waiting until Greg checks in to verify what (if any) scenario exists that allows 2 xducers to be connected to the ONIX series units...(I have not read of the scenario in any of the forums as of yet)...

Your boat is open, right? Your transducer wire would be easy to move.get Rickie. to make you two transducer thingies that have a way to interchange from front to back of boat.you already have the eagle on the trolling motor, just move the onix transducer when as needed

I'm thinking about this HB TS3 switch more...and even the adapter cable scenario would not work with the ONIX unit...

The AD 1429 has connector ends to go from ONIX head unit to "core series" xducer....not the other way around....
(The ONIX XT 14 20 HDSI T xducer cannot be hooked to the HB TS3 switch at all...with any Adapter cable)...

Does anyone read these post that would be able to advise whether humminbird is working on developing this switch? Thanks for the input guys. I am reading that it is not possible as of now, so I will wait on humminbird or start looking at other options. Thanks

Greg should check in this week...

He would be the 1 that's most likely to know about a switch for the ONIX units...

I would be but we are not allowed to comment on anything in development – even if we are or are not developing it! LOL! Sorry but can only comment that we do not have a transducer switch for the ONIX units.
