    Default Powerdrive V2 Alarm?

Guys I have the Powerdrive V2 with U2 and ipilot. Today the trolling motor was making an annoying whine noise. Don't know if it was some kind of alarm or what. Towards the end of the day I didn't hear it when I deployed then turned on the motor. Any idea what this would be and how I could fix it?

I have never heard a V2 make a constant alarm. Sounds like it may be coming from the lower unit. Have you cleaned behind your prop lately. Fishing line can build up and even force through the seal if left unattended. This should be checked every few trips and line should never be left in water, but many do it out of laziness or whatever reason.

Actually had the prop off of it the time before the alarm. It sounds almost identical to the remote when you switch speeds only it was locked in for and extended period. Motor still worked but it was annoying.

That is a new one for me and I have the same motor. I concure with the "relearn the remote" comment.

Minnkota is pretty good about answering questions on their site. If all else fails, you might want to contact them with a quick email. Might save you a ton of troubleshooting and headaches.

I think I found it. I believe it is some kind of cross interference deal with the AM radio. I think that when I turn on the motor, and I have the radio set to AM, I get some feedback. Doesn't happen if spotlocked only if you are moving. Interesting.

EMI/RFI given off by the PWM (motor speed control) board - getting into the radio.
The speed is controlled by rapidly turning the motor windings on and off using solid stae cureent switching - this creates "noise" spikes than can couple to other electronic devices via "induction" - a magnetic field that can bleed into many things.
