Do you have the settings to show the waypoints on the screen ? You can look in one of the settings/menus and see a listing of all the waypoints you have saved and then have the unit "show" 'em or can plot a course to it and see if it will work.

I have a HB 598hd SI and having trouble returning to or finding my marked waypoints. So today I marked a no wake bouy my GPS icon was off to side about 20' to 25'. I set the arrival alarm to 25', 50' & 75' and the alarm never went off. Is this normal.![]()

GO BIG ORANGE !
I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

I was just running my Garmin 50S and it stated the position error was about 25 feet. The govt has a built in error factor for civilian GPS. Usually the minimum error is 3 meters or about 10 feet. You may try again tomorrow and the signals will get you much closer. The company I used to work for had surveying GPS equipment worth 10's of thousands. There were times the GPS signals weren't good enough for them to work.
Forget the goto function. Zoom in or out to get the waypoint on your screen. Then try and be at least a couple hundred yards away. The greater distance allows you time to tweet the heading and zero right in on the waypoint. Continue to zoom in as you get closer to the waypoint. If you have to continue course corrections as you approach, you will likely be off. The straighter you are over the longer period of time, will normally put you closer. PS you should have an option for a direction heading line projecting towards the waypoint. If it isn't selected, do it. I have also found that the direction you approach the waypoint from can effect accuracy. If I was traveling north and marked a brushpile with a waypoint, the next time, I try to approach from the same direction.
minnowtime,
Next time you are out and it does this take a look at the GPS Diagnostic View and see what the Fix Type and Estimated Position Error (EPE) is showing. If these were poor readings when you originally marked the waypoint it will show off later when you come back to find it.
