    Default birds

First off been lurking for a while and by far this site is great along with the people posting all the good information. I have just ordered a war eagle 761 blackhawk and am not sure about the electronics yet. I told them to go with two 899's front and console. I know about the compact transducer's and they want take navionics platinum and some are having trouble reading below 2 mph when trolling. Beings these units are knew and not really been put through the paces yet, I was trying to get it right the first time. Was thinking about changing to 999 on console and 959 on bow giving up the side imaging on front. what would y'all do? And Thanks

I would check with the board sponsors and see if they have any of the discounted 998's left...

These already have the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T (455kHz/800kHz)..
    And external GPS antenna...

The processor is supposed to have been upgraded in the x99's...but I doubt it's noticeable...unless your needing chart updates at 75mph...

Two sponsors that seem to treat folks well here are Brian at BBG and the guy at Shut up and Fish.

I've personally dealt with Brian while we were both fishing on different lakes (aint cell phones great) and was completely satisfied with his service. I've never bought or dealt with the other guy but he seems genuine.

I have talked to Brian at BBG, now just got to decide if I want to go with latest models from hummingbird or look for discontinued models. Looking at limit around 2500 to maybe 3000, don't really want to spend that much and be sorry later.

9xx's are the way to go if you can find them. I run a 998 on console and 958 up front but many run SI up front as well as console.

I guess it depends on what type of fishing you do. If they are connected by Ethernet, you could always switch them back and forth for various fishing conditions.

I have two early model 898's. I'm not sure what you mean about not being usable under 2 mph trolling. I use mine pushing at 0.5 mph up to trolling crankbaits around 2 mph.

I think the new 999 is just a more modern version of the 898 HDSI. I wouldn't go below that myself.

Wish I could advise on the 999 or 998 but I can't. Just don't know enough about the new ones to do that. Personally, I wouldn't have a "59" series simply because it is unusable with the 360. But not everyone will be getting one of those.

Never had a problem with my 998. My boat won't run 70+ but it works fine updating with Navonics chip. Me I'd go 998 and 958 or 858 if you can find em.

Thanks for all of y'alls replies. On the trolling speed problems that was a review i had read somewhere, been studying so much on computer can't remember where. Looks like going with the xx8s is the better choice instead of the new xx9s or at least the new 999s if can't find discontinued models. Was also thinking about years ahead if I would be better off with new models now or not. Sure is hard decision when spending that much. Thanks again
