I have a hummingbird 1197c and a 798 that I downloaded a lake map of corp crappie beds on both. I have 2 n avionics chips and neither will work in either unit, tried in another unit and both cards worked. Do I need to remove what I put on them to get lake cards to work, or am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are the premium s.d. card for the midwest. I had a guy make me a s.d. card of stockton lake corps piles, installed on both units. When I put the cards in it says it is recognizing it is their, but never shows up, just the corps lake map. I assumed you just put the s.d. card in and it would pull up the lake you were, or is there more I need to do? I took the cards to bass pro to put in a demo unit and the guy tried both and they worked on those units.
I'm confused about this corp lake map...(and your statement the Stockton corp lakemap was downloaded onto your unit)...
HB units will only read Navionics or Lakemaster map cards...and then the unit overlays the Navionics data on top of the preinstalled base map that comes in the unit....
The 1197 would have either Unimap or ContourXD base map preinstalled from HB..
The 798 would probably have Unimap or ContourXD (if it's a HD model) preinstalled from the factory...
Unimap is just basic lake outlines...ContourXD has contour lines for 3000 lakes ...but probably not any you fish ...so the base map for your lake is also probably just lake outlines...
Are you sure the fellow didn't just load the waypoints from the Stockton lake SD card...??
And then what you think is the corp lake map is actually the preinstalled base map that comes on the unit anyway...??
If the waypoints loaded successfully ...the map would be just a blank map with blue dots on it...
(Once we determine this...we will figure out the Navionics card issue)...

Sorry for the confusion, it shows all the crappie beds on the hummingbird lake map. The same generic map that shows up on all the lakes I fish in kansas and Missouri. It just shows the outline of the lake you are on and where you are at and going without any features or depths. I hope this helps and doesn't add to the confusion. I am a low tech red neck with high tech toys, my 11 year old daughter usually helps me out on my phone and stuff, but I am on my own when it comes to this.
On my 998C using the chart menu, you can select what chart you want to use. If my Navionics chip is installed, it will usually go right to it. Maybe your unit got a might confused. See if you can select the Navionics chart from the chart menu tab. Maybe even try a restore defaults?
Ok...this makes sense now...
The map you see is the preinstalled lake outline base map...and it is showing your position correctly on the map...there just are no contours or other features showing on the map...
And it sounds like the corp waypoints were loaded successfully if you are seeing the blue dots...
Now to the Navionics card...
Like Shellback mentioned try the following...:
Go into the main tabbed menu by pressing Menu twice..
Cursor over to the Chart tab...
Cursor down to "Chart Select"...
Make sure this is set to "Auto"...
Post back your results...

If you restore defaults do you have to redue the software update, does it revert back to original software?
If the map card doesn't load, then try the other card slot. You should see it say loading charts.
