    Default seeing my lures!!!!

I have been playing with my Elite 7 HDI trying to see my lures and jigs.It seems I can see the lures better on DI than 2D, probably because of the different transducer pulses. Today I was able to see jig movement on the DI and not on the 2D, Water depth was only about 8'. Would it show up better on deeper water since the cone angle would be larger or do I have a setting problem. It seems I am having a problem getting the settings right. DI doesn't seem to appear right and I am just as big of a dummy at taking screen shots as getting the settings right. I am having fun playing with it anyway....... any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks...... crappie1133

In 8' of water, a 20deg cone angle will show a bottom circle ~ 3ft across ... so, yeah, you'd have to get your lure right underneath the transducer in order to see it on 2d. The DI sonar ping is only a few degrees thick, but has a much greater degree (width) of angle ... and it's a higher kHz range, so it's going to show more detail (even on the smaller object).

Screen shots should be a "two button" operation. On my Elite 5DSI, that amounts to pushing the Power Button, then the + Zoom Button ... and you're done. As I understand it, the E7HDI requires you to push both these buttons at the same time .... and more often than not you get the function results of only one of the buttons (whichever made contact first).
I guess you'd have to be able to reach the buttons with two hands at the same time, or else scroll the screen backwards & then take the screen shot.

    ... cp

Very good thread. I have the Elite 7 and have been trying to see my jigs and figure out best settings also. So could some of you guys that have this figured out , post your settings for 2d sonar and DI. Do you set the sensitivity on auto or manual. What KHZ range, ect. I,m fishing in say 25ft of water. It would be nice to have a thread just for the Elite 7. Tks, LR77

The deeper the water up to a point the better you will see the bait, and the sonar will out shine the DI ,just have to turn up sensitivity, should be able to see fish come up and hit bait.

LR77 and genec, Thanks for your comments I think disabling those fish icons and using raw sonar information will help. It is also possible in shallow water that the motor / TM noise will affect how many fish are seen on the screen.I haven't tried seeing jigs/lures using only raw sonar returns. The DI would show the up and down movement holding the lures about 5' under the water. Lr77, Doctor Sonar has a freshwater settings recommendation for Elite 5 and 7 HDI sonars that's helpful. Thanks again guys.......crappie1133

Interesting and confusing. I have 8 rods and 24 shiners in front of the boat, and my elite 7 seems useless showing the bait all the time. Seems I can't distinguish fish from bait

Genec- I can see my bait on my depth finder in 2d but have never seen a fish come up out the brush to hit it. Do you want to run the chart speed all the way down, or all the way up to be able to see the fish rise up on the screen?

just make sure your bait is up over the brush with some space inbetween so you can see the fish moving up,even can see them come up and look at it and go back down for not wanting the bait.just keep it in the cone, boat still, and if sonar is moving at and average speed should be easy to see one hit bait, just have to see the bait on df when fish hits it

Used my Elite 5-HDI first time yesterday. Was impressed with clarity. Use stick steer boat. Have transducer on transom and another on TM with switch. Works great.
Think I'm really going to like it. Still a learning curve to go through.
