    Default Big Decisions

OK, I am looking into upgrading my electronics. Since I started year round fishing for crappie a few years ago my desire to see in front of the boat with sonar/scan has been eating me alive.
Options are now available to some degree but they come at a price. Gonna get 2 units, both as large as the manufactorer I buy from makes. so for Humminbird that will be a couple of 1198s and a 360 added in, with the Lowrance it would be a couple of 12 Touch's with a SpotLiteScan thrown in.
When you crunch the numbers there just isnt alot of difference in cost. Would like to hear some pros and cons of the 1198 verses the Touch units and also dome feedback on the 360 from some that have used it.
With the numbers being close the extra 1.6 inches of screen in the Touch unit is getting the lean.
    Thanks

The touch 12s are on sale now with a 200 dollar rebate.

I saw that, that makes the numbers almost dead even.

I've always thought that the Lowrance images I've seen on here have always had a little edge to them compared to the HB units but the price was always the bigger difference(Lowrance costing a good bit more). But if you say that the prices are about the same, I would definitely go with the touch 12's! And yes I'm a Lowrance guy...

you cant make a lowrance work right on your terrova no link feature and once they start making that map card for follow the contour your going to be wishing you had the HB arent the 1199"s actually cheaper than the 1198

I have a Lowrance 10 and 12 Touch on my boat, but I'd probably switch back to HB if I didn't have so much invested, simply because of the Link feature.

Big difference in SpotlightScan and 360...

SpotlightScan has to be manually "pointed" at the 30° pizza slice of water you want to see by manipulating the TM to "sweep" the xducer thru your target 30° area...

360 automatically updates the image all the way around the boat without touching anything...

Excellent point Rickie but you cant tell me you havent already got the wheels turning trying to figure a way to make the spotlite work without it being mounted directly to a trolling motor. Aint giving up my Terrova and have faith that you or CanePole will come up with a solution.

How does the Side scan work in shallow water, less than 15 foot?

It'll show bream beds in pretty shallow water. I use it to pick up bait balls a lot in open water.
