    When booting up the unit...

When the GPS disclaimer screen comes up...wait at least a full 1.5 minutes before pressing "Exit"...

There is a know issue in some of the newer software versions that is taking the unit longer to boot than in last versions...

Even though you do not have a memory card; could you take a picture of what the sonar is looking like when it does this?

Do you have only the one HDSi transducer connected to this unit or is there a second 2D transducer and AS-Si-DB-Y cable connected to it?

snake, I actually was thinking about that before I read what you posted. I had gotten to noticing that if I wait and press exit it does not do that, so I think you are right on that one. Greg there is just one transducer.

For the thin bottom line...Still sounds like maybe the xducer is not level with the waters's surface...

After checking that, try the following test for the other issue of the wide color band showing on the sonar view...

For a test...try turning the 83kHz off under the sonar tab...(choose the 200kHz sonar beam setting)...

If the wide color band at the top goes away...Then it's possible that the wide color band at the top is sometimes indicative of a lot of surface clutter being picked up by the wider 83kHz 60° cone..

If the test above confirms the 83kHz cone is picking up surface clutter...Then you can do 1 (or more) of the following...:
*turn the 83kHz back on and adjust 83kHz sensitivity down under the "Sonar " tab...
*turn the "Surface Clutter" setting up under the "Sonar" tab...
*leave the 83kHz off...(but the unit will not display target echos is the wider 60° cone...
*set "Switchfire" to "Clear" mode...and adjust Sensitivity to your liking...

And..like Greg said...even a picture of the screen will help us diagnose your problem...

yea be sure to check your transducer is not pointing upwards but is flat to the water.

Maybe some of these guys with more knowledge will have more information. I'm guessing you have Fish ID on? How about the Switch Fire is it on or off? I don't care much for the Switch Fire setting JMHO.

Please Check your current under load if the unit is freezing up, you may not have enought current going to the unit

I turned the 83khz off and the thick top line went away. On the down imaging should it show a line at the bottom indicating the bottom?

With the DI view open...press the Menu button 1 time to open the DI Xpress window...

Check that the "Lower Range" setting is either in "Auto" or set to a value deeper than the water depth you're in...(example Lower Range setting of 20 in 18ft of water)...

Also raise the the DI Sensitivity to see if maybe the the Sensitivity is set so low as to not show the bottom on the DI view...

Take your boat into a cove with calm and semi clear water and turn your surface clutter down to 1 and see if it clears up. Check your lower range and see if its in auto to find bottom contour. I believe lower range is in express menu of 2D sonar and surface clutter is in main menu of sonar. Hope this helps you.
