    Default lowrance install question

Just got my new elite 7 HDI today (MAN I'M EXCITED) and I was looking over the installation intructions and hardware. My questions about the power cable, it has the NMEA 2000 cable with it and as far as I know I don't have anything it goes to. So what do I do with the bare ends, just electrical tape and tuck them out of the way. Or do I need to do anything special with them.

Thanks Bee, I thought that's all it would be, just wanted to make sure they wouldn't short something out if they weren't capped

Do tape the ends of those wires before you tuck them away

I would just in case you ever wanted to use it. Keep dirt and corrosion out. I just put small piece of tape over it then taped it to other cables.

I rolled mine up and used a zip tie to hold under the console.

Thanks Guys for the info. I got the unit installed this weekend and just wraped and tucked the NMEA 2000 wires that I also found out are usless for the HDI models anyhow. You need the HDS models to use the NMEA, the good thing is if I ever upgrade I will have all the wires ran ready to use.

That's not entirely correct. You can use NEMA to add an external GPS puck and connect to other units that are nema 2000 comparable. Thinking seriously about getting another one and will have the external GPS on it.

Rees You're correct, i for got about the external GPS puck, the engine monitoring gauges won't work on the HDI. Now I got that off the internet and we all know about facts and the internet.
