    Default 798 Problems

I just bought a used HB 798. I got it installed and it worked fine for a couple minutes, then the right image on the si went blank. I cleaned the connections the best I can, but it is still blank. Any ideas?

I would guess bad transducer. Do you know anyone with the same unit so you could hook yours up and see if both sides work on a different transducer?

Actually any Humminbird Side Imaging unit would work to test the right Si sonar. Just plug up only the power and transducer to test it.

I know someone with a 898. I will try that. How much is a new Xducer?

    Hi Cmj,

Well, since you got the unit from me I am a little concerned to say the least. As you know it has very little time on it and I was very careful removing everything from our boat. I never had any trouble with the unit. I sure hope it turns out to be something simple. Keep us posted.

Don't worry about it Kopper36, I know it is a new problem. As I said, it worked for a few minutes before it went out. Just my luck. I will plug it in to my buddy's x-ducer and post the results.

Well thanks to Basscat's very generous offer I was able to test my unit. I am getting the exact same reading with his unit, so I am guessing that I have a bad transducer. Anyone know what that's going to set me back?

    Transom Mount Transducer
Compact Dual/Side Imaging. 20/60/86 (2) degree, 200/83/455 kHz with built-in temperature. 20' Cable. More secure, especially at high force of waves. Improved running angle and an optional lock down screw to override the kick up.

You can also use this one on the 798 but the 800kHz frequency will not be used because the 798 cannot transmit the 800...(some say the longer SI piezoes in this xducer give better images than the stock "Compact SI" listed above)...
