Yes just hold it a little so it slides in easy. When you want to pull it back out I just push that bar down and wait for the little sound and grab the shaft at the top and pull. It will slide back into place, but I also pull a bit harder once it's close to lock it in good! Also when you want to deploy it, push down that bar and wit for the little chime to sound and once it does it's ready to deploy.

Once you get it in the stowed position you may want to slide the depth adjustment collar all the way down. This keeps the TM from accidentally deploying while your under way at possibly full speed. I know of two of my friends whose Terrovas deployed this way, one was ok but the other one was destroyed.

Just for safety, rig some kind of tie down on the shaft close to the head. Also for non deployment when under way. If 60 in shaft might want support back at the head because they can get to bouncing pretty good on trailer

I'm slightly deaf but still don't recall ever hearing mine chime when I push the bar to stow it.

I had mine deploy going up the boat ramp once. It just scraped the skeg, but that horrific noise terrified me so much that now I always move that collar up and down the shaft anytime I'm about to make a move.

I have not heard the chime either so maybe I am more deaf than I thought. Make sure you have already had the remote "learn" the unit it is operating. Have to do that the first time you use it. The instructions tell you how. You can deploy it in your yard and play with it some to get a feel for it. If it is like the old technology, they recommend you not run the motor for any length of time out of the water or it will overheat. (I am not sure that is still an issue)
Once you get the feel of it you will love it.

One other question, could I tie a rope to the shaft to help pull it up to stow it or could this hurt the head unit or the shaft itself??

Once you try it you will find you won't need a rope. Just grab the head in one hand release the lock with the other. Tilt it back and pull it in. Like said before lay it down and give it a pretty good pull to get it locked in place. The newer motors have had the locking mechanism redone trying to prevent unwanted deployment that could happen with earlier units.
