    Default Need help!!!!!

So I just bought the elite 5 dsi and I can't get it to come on. I hooked it all up to my boat battery and nothing. I did this several times and no luck. So I take it back to gander mountian and hooked it up to the power source they use to run their display units and it comes on. So now I am home and I still can't get it to come on. I have hooked it up to the boat battery, my truck battery and my wife's vehicle battery and it still won't work. Any ideas on how to get this to work?

Make sure you have the power/tdx cord securely locked into the power socket ... and that all connections to the battery are tight. Push & hold the power button in for several seconds & then release. If it still doesn't come on, jiggle the wires (lightly) around all the connection points (back of the unit, battery terminals), then try again.

I hook mine up to a portable jumper battery, with a extra power/tdx cord, in my home ... and it doesn't always come on immediately after pushing the power button. I have to jiggle the battery clamps & power cord connection, sometimes several times, before I get it to come on. I don't have that problem when connecting it up, on the boat.

If it worked at the GM display, then it's simply a matter of not getting a good connection at home. Did you turn the unit on at the GM display, or did a sales rep ?? The unit will not come on with a quick push of the power button ... you have to hold it in for 3-5 seconds. Hopefully, that's all there is to your problem.

Thanks for the response. My wife came out to talk to me and all she did was rehook it to the battery for me and it came on. I had to have done that a hundred times but somehow she got it. Now if I can out fish her tomorrow I won't have to hear how she hooked up my fish finder and then out fished me too.

Gad to hear that you got it working. Or at least she did! Running a new one myself and it is a pretty steep learning curve for me. Good luck!

If you're having problems with the "learning curve" of the Elite 5 DSI/Chartplotter ... then I invite you to join in the discussion & Q/A session about this unit. It's the stickie thread at the top of this forum page. We may have already covered some of your problems, but if we haven't ... then we'll be more than glad to help you along.

If your unit is not this exact unit, then you'd probably be better served to post your questions on a separate thread ... so that other owners/users, of that particular unit, whom would be more familiar with its workings, can best help you figure it out.
