I installed my new Elite 5 DSI yesterday and took it for a trial. The bottom definition and structure were pretty good. I could see trees and branches and structure on the bottom. However, I don't seem to see any fish. The Operation manual that came with the unit is not very specific for this unit and it is not very detailed. While it says Elite 5 DSI on the cover of the manual, on the inside there is a notice that says:
"This manual covers several units. Some features and screenshots may differ from your unit's capabilities or from what you see on your screen. Your unit, however, will function in a similar manner."
I am sure this unit is capable of showing fish around structure and in open water, if I had a manual that would show me how to set it up. I have searched the Lowrance web site and see nothing other than the little brochure that came in the box with my unit.
Does anyone have any experience with these units who can help?

Sorry, his must be a 2d unit. Do you have a sensitivity setting? Also, how deep was the water you were scanning?
I haven't found a sensitivity adjustment. I have found contrast. Looked in water from 5 to 150'
Well, I e-mailed Lowrance customer service telling them the operator's manual was confusing at best. They responded, basically affirming what I told them. Not much help.
I thought the contrast setting was the sens. setting on the down scan, the sens, setting i thought was on the sonar settings>>>???
Do you have to be moving for the DSI to work correct. Cub48
From what I've seen, it's hard to see fish on it, period! I've yet to make my purchase, this is one reason I'm still lookin at the HB...at least that way I can use the 2D sonar to learn what DI fish are!
