Default Help setting up hummingbird 596c HD

I need some help getting the settings correct on a Hummingbird 596c HD (sonar only). When I am out fishing in about 10' of water I can see fish but they don't show up on my fishfinder. I have tried resetting to factory defaults. I have the fishfinder wire to my cranking battery not my trolling motor batteries. I also have the transducer that came with it, transom mounted & I have one for my trolling motor (US2) & they both do the same thing (display mostly clutter). Any help would be appreciated.

They usually have a setting that will show a fish as the digital fish I believe this is setting is called fish ID. Otherwise in all the clutter fish look kinda like narrow blurs ( depending on the size of the fish). Otherwise I'd say check your transducer to make sure there are no obstructions blocking your sonar path

It all just kind of depends on what you want to see when you're looking at it. Check out the videos by Doug vahrenberg on YouTube he's very good with electronics and can explain things a lot more in depth than I'm able to

Make sure the sonar is set to 83/200...this will give the widest bottom coverage with the 60° 83kHz beam....and still allow good detail of fish in the narrower 20° 200kHz beam...

Fish ID may help by letting the unit use it's own criteria base for displaying fish symbols...

Turn Switchfire On in deeper than 10ft....then turn Sensitivity "Down" (in the Xpress menu)..to an acceptable clutter level...
Turn Switchfire Off in shallower than 10ft...then turn Sensitivity "Up" (in Xpress menu) ...to an acceptable clutter level...

Turn the RTS window to Wide...(RTS is "Real Time Sonar"...basically a vertical oriented flasher...blips in the RTS window will be definate echo reflections "of something"...

Can you post pix of what the display is showing...??
