I got my depth finder set up and fished for 5 or so hours Saturday and my depth finder didn't kill the 12v cabelas battery. Just wanted to give an update for anyone thinking about doing this.

Thanks. I'm going to try that. I already have a cabelas 12v battery for a duck decoy. Worth a shot. Thanks

Just saw this thread. First, I think you need a bigger deep cycle trolling battery. Sounds like you've got maybe a 24 group? Try a 27 or better yet 29 group.
Second, I run an Elite 4x DSI off of a 7ah (deer feeder) battery, and it works great. At only 5 lbs., it is a great way to isolate your FF to reduce interference or for placement in the boat. My FF only pulls around 300 milliamps, and after a full day of fishing, it only drops about .3 -.4 amps. So double the draw to 600 ma, and yours would likely drop the voltage by .7 or so, which is fine. You could probably get a couple full days of fishing out of a single charge.
Ohms law. Rite on.

Edit: I meant to say it drops the battery by .3-.4 volts when I check it at the end of the day.
