    Default What I Like!!!

I read this forum about three times a day. I have learned a lot. I love to fish, if I catch fish that is icing on the cake Love to go out with my boat and electronics and try new methods. I give any fish to those who don't catch any or are unable to go. I enjoy being in God's world and thank him for all the opportunitys to go.( never know when its your last trip) I just sold a HDS 7 Gen 2 to Navyangler on this board and bought a Elite 7 HDI. Nothing wrong with the HDS 7. (I didn't have or want to go the structure scan route but wanted DI) Mounted on the trolling motor and it is great. "Rickie" likes to say "cartoon pictures" and he is correct, DI gives a better picture of what you are seeing. I don't spider rig or long line, nothing wrong with it, but just not my preference. Having said this I use a foot control motor and have been for 30 years, I feel it works better for me and better suits my style of fishing.I feel everyone has to look at his style of fishing and select his boat , electronics, rods, reels, line etc. that best suits his likes. I have only used Lowrance electronics, however I feel Humminbird,Garmin, Raymarine and others make good products. Take your time , pick what works for you or whatever YOU like, do your own research and use and like what works for you. I know this is long ,but some of our threads are read about 3 hundred times and only have 5 or 6 comments. Good luck and God bless everyone who has taken their time to read this......crappie1133

I a bit surprised that you replaced your Structure Scan unit with DI unit. On contrary, I installed SI transducer on my dedicated DI Humminbird 385 ci DI (just changed connection of the upper and lower pins before), and now I can get SI images up to 300 feet to each side. It took me just a few hours to see what is going on in the water around our town using Side Imaging. I have been fishing and diving for about 20 years there, but did not know of that. SI transducer makes excellent DI images aswell.

Thanks for everyones comments. VIC, I fully understood the HDS 7 's capabilities with structure scan. My boat is a Tracker stick steer that had HST-WSBL transducers at each ends e/w a switch to go from front to back. This configuration would show 83 htz on half of the screen and 200 htz on the other. The 83 gave a little more bottom view. I considered the structure scan module which would have required mouting another transducer Structurer scan was approx. $600, to mount on trolling motor would require a protector shield at about$180, to mount on the transom would mean pulling in new transducer cable and going through the possible outboard motor intervention. Then there was the problem , where to mount the LSS unit. The HDS is a great unit and I liked it, worked great, and I hope Navyangler is putting it to good use. With the Elite 7 HDI, all I had to do was change out the TM transducer, add the Lowrance protector shield at $20 and power it up. Believe me I did a lot of research and I am enjoying the DI.I can split the 2D and DI over and under or side by side, with or with out GPS Like I said in my original posting, Make your decisions the best you can according to your likes and needs. Who knows I might have made a bad call, won't be the first time.... Thanks again for everyones comments

This is why I stop on Hummibird 385 ci DI. Last autumn it cost $249 plus SI transducer $130, and there is no any problems with it mounting on small boats. The best thing is that it requires a very small battery – I used 3 pound battery, and now I bought Li-ion battery just half a pound of weight . The whole assembly weighs about 4 pounds - almost nothing J

I am glad to hear you were able to give the Gen 7 a good home. Nice talking to you about it and I hope you are having a lot of luck catching with the HDI. I put mine on the boat and had it on the water once. Liked what I saw but I need to use it several more times to get the feel for it. Work and family health issues have kept me off the water this year. It would be nice to meet up with you in our area sometime and try to hook a few. Take care for now and happy hooking.
