    Default Hummingbird chip

I have a hummingbird 1197 with factory installed navaonics map in it. My question is can I put a lake masters chip in it and it over ride the navaonics ? And if I take the lake master chip out will the navaonics map come back.thanks for your help

I'm curious to why you want a lake master and not the navaonics. I thought the navaonics was suppose to be superior over lake master.

You can have 2 map cards in the unit at the same time...(I think the unit will default to the left card slot if the unit is set to "Auto chart select" in this case)...

If there are 2 map cards in and you want to view the "non-default" card slot....set the "Chart Select" to the "Right card slot" setting...

If your unit is the older NVB bundled map style...I think it will overlay the map card's data over the NVB data...(even in "Auto Chart select")...

X racer it sounds like you have a 1197c Si NVB unit.
Yes, the unit should automatically show the LakeMaster mapping data when you install the mapping card. However, you may want to make sure that is what it is showing you by setting the Chart Select menu to use that map card or you may want to show what the NVB data has on it without taking the LakeMaster card out. This can be manually set with this menu.

    gotta_fish,
If that is really a 998c Si NVB model unit than it did come with some higher detailed lake maps in it (2006 vintage). If not than it just has the background ContourXD maps which may not give you the detail level you want. Check for this be zooming out and scrolling over to the lake(s) in question and look at the detail level with and without the Navionics map card installed. This can be done in the Simulator mode.

I just bought a 598ci. I guess I assumed it would have maps in it. What do I need now to show detailed maps on the GPS? First GPS unit. Thanks,

You should look at the appropriate mapping cards from LakeMaster and Navionics. Make sure the one you are looking at has the lakes(s) that you want in the detail level that you want.
