    Default Hb 597cihd question

I am using my 597cihd on my trolling motor with a 798's transducer. I seem to have a large color line always at the top of my screen and when I am in really shallow water the screen is so blurred with color it almost seems like my switchfire option is on... Is the reason for this color line due to having a more powerful transducer being used?

(Hopefully your unit is not the 597ci HD DI Combo as these DI units can only use their own xducer)...

I would think the 2d crystal in the 798's Compact SI xducer is the same as any of the other HB Dual Beam Plus 83/200 crystal...

What I'll have to let Greg answer is if the 798's connector pin out would allow the 597ci HD to only use the 2d wires in the connector...

Have you tried increasing the "Surface Clutter" setting under the Sonar tab...??

You can also try changing the "Water Type" setting under the Sonar tab...the Salt Water settings have filters to help with waterborne particles in the water...it is possible that your water at this time of year has an algae bloom or pollen bloom that the unit is picking up suspended in the water...

(A couple of weeks ago my SI was so clouded in 1 bay with a recent pollen bloom that I thought my xducer was going bad...until I moved to a different part of the lake it cleared up ...and then when I loaded the boat I could see the green pollen floating at the water's edge at the boat ramp..)

With it being Saturday now, it may be Monday before Greg pops in to verify the 798 xducer question...

I have not messed with the surface clutter much on it. I believe it is set at 6 or so. I called humminbird and they said they think the transducer is to powerful for the unit... Hopefully hey are wrong. I have never thought about changing the setting to saltwater so I will give that a try next time I am out.... My problems usually show up when I am in muddy shallow water FYI... Thanks

Turn surface clutter to off and the sensitivity down (possibly up) and check that out. Usually helps except all circumstances are unique.

Rickie is correct: the same 2D sonar elements inside of the 798’s transducer are the same ones used in the 597ci HD’s transducer and should give the same results.

Try the menu settings that Rickie suggested but also look and see what the Beam Select menu is on. In shallower water you will probably want this on the 200kHz setting as the 83kHz or 200/83kHz settings will show a lot more surface clutter due to the lower 83kHz frequency.

To check and see if it is the transducer you can always connect up the 597ci HD’s transducer and hold it over the side of the boat to test it.
