It all depends on what you want to do with it. Like just know the depth, locate structure, know where you are at and where you are going (GPS), look out to the sides or just under the boat. The list goes on.

I have a 17ft express and I'm gonna get the minnkota w/ipilot and need new electronics also and I'm not up to date on whats good to have. I'm gonna be crappie fishing only and don't really want to have more in the electronics than what the boats worth.

Look HERE and call one of our sponsors and tell them what you want to do. They can help you and give you a better price than any place else. Sounds like you will need a SI unit.

Your preferred fishing method will be an indicator of which sonar technology would best suit your needs....
2d will show stuff under the boat...in the normal "cartoon-like" image...
DI will show stuff under the boat and out to the sides some.....in a "picture-like" image...
SI will show stuff under the boat, out to the sides 100+ feet, and which side of the boat...in a "picture-like" image...
Once you decide which of these sonar technologies you are interested in ...then it comes time to decide on your budget and how much you are willing to invest to get the "bells and whistles" that go along with these sonar technologies...
